I remember times, after Thanksgiving, around my Aunt Mary Jo's table, making Cookie Dough Christmas Ornaments. I remember Beth, our cookie monster, wanting to eat them! I remember Suzy, concentrating and working so hard to get the painting on each one she made just right.
We used cookie cutters that had a good bit of detail, I think they were by Tupperware. The ones I have on hand are generally made by Wilton and more about exterior shape than interior content. I think they are in a big bag in a box up in the attic. Oh no, another trip to the attic. At least I pretty much know where everything is up there now.
As I recall, the recipe had a lot of flour and salt. I'm sure I can find it on line. This would be the perfect year for Ethan and Abby to begin this tradition. Whether I make them here and take them to be painted in TN or I have the kids help with the baking depends on how brave I feel! As a grandmother, I'm not as good with chaotic mess as I was as a mother.
If the rain stops for a while I plan on going to Red Wing Park today to hunt for Hedge Apples. This will be a great Christmas Tree; decorated pinecones, cookie dough ornaments and hopefully painted hedge apples.
I found my camera. Pictures will follow soon.
